DeKalb Schools is in the process of preparing for next year. Teacher contracts have gone out and the first Public Budget Input Hearing is Wednesday at 5:45pm. How many teachers and trailers we need will depend on the enrollment and capacity of each school. Here are the projected enrollments of each school by district/region.
Note: This data was produced by DeKalb County School District.

Although DCSD has always had a hard time projecting with accuracy, it’s clear that elementary schools in Dunwoody are ALL over, with the exception of Chesnut (which has always disputed the capacity of 570, to no avail. There’s no way 570 kids fit in that building.). Given that this is the case, please give a real reason why the rebuild of Austin isn’t aiming to increase capacity in the cluster, using re-drawn lines to balance. For years, Austin’s distant northern location and other factors have sheltered it from the attendance area changes that have been borne by the rest, but there is no longer any argument to justify keeping other schools over capacity in favor of what the Austin community would prefer. Why is a non-standard, smaller scho0l even being considered?
I refer you to the Austin Elementary Construction Update.
Two things are perfectly clear;
1) The school district does not know what to do with the students during the rebuild.
2) The community would like a school with a capacity of 750 students and not a prototypical school with 900 students.
