U.S. News – Best High Schools

U.S. News released the 2015 Best High Schools rankings today. Qualifying Schools with the highest College Readiness Index values were numerically ranked.  The ranking algorithm was not based solely on academic achievement of students.  In addition to testing scores, data regarding socioeconomic and subgroup demographics were factored into the ranking methodology.
Qualifying Schools
1)  Math & English EOCTs – The students must perform better than the state average on state proficiency tests.  Specifically, schools had to meet a performance threshold of one-half of one standard deviation above the state average.
2)  Minority and Low-income performance – The school’s various groups labeled disadvantaged had to perform better than the state average for that group.
College Readiness Index
The College Readiness Index is calculated by the number of 12th grade students that passed at least one AP or IB test by the end of their senior year, divided by the total number of 12th grade students. 100 is a perfect score.
