Austin Elementary Renovation/Rebuild Update 11/17/2015

Austin Elementary School

From: Austin School Council

On November 9, 2015 Austin Elementary School Council (AESC) met with the DeKalb County School District for the District to update us on the renovation/rebuild. Joshua Williams, the Chief Operating Officer, told us, “Superintendent Green and I are evaluating all possible options to build the new elementary school on its current site or near Roberts Drive as requested by the community.”  Keeping Austin close to its current location and minimizing disruption to children during the construction process have always been and continue to be the AESC’s priorities.
The District is currently in talks with the City of Dunwoody to explore alternatives for rebuilding the school along Roberts Drive.  Please feel free to reach out to the mayor and the rest of city council to let them know how important it is that they facilitate this process, so that the District is able to consider the best options to keep Austin on Roberts Drive.

“We knew [pass rates] were going to go down,” said Dana Rickman, a researcher with the Georgia Partnership for Excellence in Education.  Georgia’s new test results are more reflective of what the National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP), the so-called “gold standard” test given to a sample of U.S. students, has been saying: that the pass rates on Georgia’s old tests were inflated.
