Testing Calendar Update
On August 25, 2015, the 2015-2016 testing calendar was revised by removing all conflicts with religious observances. The Cognitive Abilities Test (CogAT) and Iowa Tests of Basic Skills (ITBS), standardized tests used in the gifted identification process, will be administered as follows:
- Sept. 9, 10, 11, 16, 18, and 21 – ITBS
- Sept. 22, 23, 24, and 25 – ITBS make-up
- Oct. 5, 6, and 7 – CogAT
- Oct. 8 – CogAT make-up
I just checked PATS and there are 40 classroom positions posted for Special Education, 49 total positions. More than one out of three vacancies is in special education.

Hi Stan,
Went to Chamblee Curriculum night for my 11th grader last night. The history teacher said the kids can check out books, but most are missing pages and falling apart – they have not gotten new books since 2007. The science teacher said they could check out a book, but the online book is newer. She doesn’t have a code though. She said they can ask other teachers if they have a password for the book site. And then there’s the missing Science and Math teachers…
Hi Sharon,
That’s frustrating. I believe the district is moving to the online model for textbooks. Ask the principal and/or governing board chair what the plan is for your science class. You should either have access to the book online or a respectable book. As of last month, Chamblee HS had 5 teacher vacancies. That is unusually high for the district.
